Finding Housing

Finding the right place to live is one of the biggest parts of your college experience in Israel. For some, that might mean dorm life close to campus and community. For others, it could be an apartment with friends, more independence, and room to host Shabbat meals.

There’s no one-size-fits-all — so it’s worth understanding the pros and cons of each option and what fits you best.

Tip: Reach out to the local JLIC community for real-life advice on what works best on your campus — on or off!

Dorms

Get in touch with your university to learn about your specific options. Dormitory costs vary widely — from $250 to $1,200 per month, depending on the location of the school and room type.

Apartment Living

Many students already living off-campus are often looking for another roommate to join — so it’s smart to connect with the JLIC community to find a good match. They can either connect you with other students or invite you to a WhatsApp chat for finding roommates and apartments — good luck!

Our Tips for Finding an Apartment

How to look:

  • Follow your local JLIC WhatsApp roommates chat — you might find someone moving out!
  • If you want to find a place with friends, you may need to hit the Israeli rental market:

    • Search: yad2.co.il (Hebrew) — Israel’s main classifieds site.
    • Check Facebook groups — landlords and brokers post openings regularly.
    • Ask around — sometimes word of mouth is the best way to hear about available apartments.
  • Start searching 2–3 months before your move-in date — landlords often want to fill places immediately.
  • When you find an opening, check it out in person and be ready to move quickly as apartments often go fast if they are a good deal!
